MSL to host major international metrology congress
The Asia Pacific Metrology Programme (APMP) is coming to Wellington in November.
This November, the Measurement Standards Laboratory takes centre stage on the world metrology map! MSL is proud to host APMP 2026, bringing around 400 delegates from over 38 economies to Wellington from 14 to 21 November.
The Asia Pacific Metrology Programme (APMP)(external link) is a grouping of national metrology institutes (NMIs) from the Asia-Pacific region. APMP works to promote and support the development of the region's measurement infrastructure that, amongst other things, facilitates international trade, ensures equity in the marketplace, and enhances the quality of life and the environment for its citizens.
Every year, APMP holds its General Assembly in a member nation, and in 2026, that honour belongs to Aotearoa New Zealand.
Over the week, experts from NMIs across the globe will gather for technical committee meetings, focus group meetings, a symposium, and the General Assembly itself. As the premier forum advancing metrological science, capability and collaboration among NMIs in the Asia-Pacific region, the programme will showcase leading-edge developments in measurement science and technology, emerging applications, strategic future directions, and foundational research shaping the discipline.
Dr Peter McDowall, MSL's Director and Chief Metrologist says, “We have a long and storied history with APMP. In addition to being founding members of the organisation, Distinguished Scientist Keith Jones(external link), MNZM was the Chair for some time. So, hosting the 2026 General Assembly is a real privilege for MSL and for New Zealand.”
