In addition to calibration and consultancy services, the Measurement Standards laboratory offers a wide range of practical training courses. Scheduled courses, open to all, are conducted annually.   • Pressure Calibration
    August 2018

    This workshop is a practical one-day session dealing with all aspects of pressure gauge and transducer calibration. It is especially useful for staff involved in testing and calibration of pressure gauges by comparison against reference pressure gauges or deadweight testers.

  • Infrared Radiation Thermometry
    August 2018

    Practical course covering problems with the use and calibration of infrared radiation thermometers, including reflections, absorption, emissivity, and instrumental effects. Builds confidence in measurements from −50 °C to 2000 °C

  • Balances and Weighing

    This course introduces balances and weighing. It covers sources of error in measurements, common pitfalls of weighing and problem solving associated with the use of balances or weights used for checking and calibrating balances.

  • Measurement, uncertainty and calibration

    Gives a broad overview of measurement and calibration principles, and calculation of uncertainty. Designed for technical staff making, reporting, designing, or auditing measurements. Especially useful for staff involved in testing and calibration.

  • Temperature measurement and calibration
    August 2018

    Use, care, and calibration of liquid-in-glass, platinum resistance, thermocouple, and radiation thermometers. Relevant to all personnel who use or check thermometers as a part of testing, installation, or monitoring and maintenance tasks.

  • Spectrophotometer Calibration
    August 2018

    This course takes you through the basics of calibrating the wavelength and photometric accuracy of a spectrophotometer. Through presentations and practical hands on experience you will develop understanding of how these instruments work and how to identify and correct errors.

  • Humidity and Moisture

    Covers all aspects of humidity measurement especially relative humidity and dewpoint. Provides an overview of physical principles, sources of error, treatment of uncertainties, surveying of environmental chambers, calibration, and traceability.

  • RF and Microwave Uncertainty Workshop
    September 2018

    If you are making or designing measurements involving RF or microwave quantities, and particularly if you are operating under ISO 17025 "General Requirements for the Competence of Testing and Calibration Laboratories", then this course is for you.

  • NEW - Reliable Relevant Electrical Measurements workshop
    September 2018

    This course focuses on skills for making good electrical measurements. Good measurement starts with being clear on why you are making the measurement, in particular understanding the decisions that will be made using the results.
